As the 4th of July gets closer and with Flag Day ten days after that I’ve been thinking a lot lately about patriotic pins and why they are so popular. Maybe it has to do with the close ties of lapel pins to the military? Or maybe it has more to do with the fact pins are a elegant way to show your patriotic pride with-out getting all decked out in red, white, and blue.
The reality is that most likely has to do both. Lapel pins are an integral part of the military, you see them on most uniforms, they are awarded at ceremonies, and given to veterans an retired serviceman at almost all occasions. This has surely led to an indoctrination of millions of military personnel to lapel pins. Showing your patriotism is much like wearing a jersey or hat from your hometown or favorite team.
We all love to show our pride in our country but we can’t always wear red, white, and blue. We can however attach a pin to our coat, lapel, backpack, or anywhere for that matter. Patriotic pins can be displayed year round in a subtle and elegant way…and that makes them a popular way to show your patriotism.
